About Curtis Elementary School

Lizzie Curtis Elementary School serves families in the southern portion of Northwest ISD in the Haslet and Fort Worth area, where it provides a growing community with a close-knit environment that champions learning. In collaboration with staff, students, and families, Lizzie Curtis provides a nurturing environment that educates the whole child to achieve personal excellence.

The school is named after Alice Elizabeth Curtis, known as “Lizzie,” the first teacher in the Haslet area. In the late 1870s, the city of Haslet had raised $150 in funding to construct a building called Blue Mound School, which eventually was renamed after the city. Prior to the schoolhouse, Ms. Curtis taught children in the home of a Haslet community member. About seven years later, Blue Mound School was placed on wagons and moved half a mile north to the site of the current Haslet Elementary School.

At Curtis, teachers and staff members believes in the power of working with the community. Teachers understand that a parent or guardian’s role as their children’s first – and lifelong – educators. As such, the school welcomes volunteers and other involvement in campus activities.

Curtis Elementary School is dedicated to building and fostering a respectful, caring environment where every family feels welcomed, important and connected so that the school and community can work together to help students reach their potential.
