Boundary changes for elementary schools approved

Following a two-week input period regarding proposed attendance boundary changes, trustees voted to approve the recommendation that will provide relief from overcrowding at Haslet Elementary School.

The new attendance boundaries affect three campuses, Curtis, Haslet and Peterson elementary schools. This rezoning will keep Haslet closer to its 850-student capacity, as projections indicated it would exceed 1,000 students if rezoning didn’t take place. The new zone changes will affect the following communities:

  • Moving the Bridgeview community from Haslet Elementary to Curtis Elementary
  • Moving the Courtland Presidio East and Alleia at Presidio apartment complexes from Curtis Elementary to Peterson Elementary

Historically, the district has supported students entering their final year at a campus by allowing them to remain – a practice that will continue with this process. Students entering fifth grade who are affected by the rezoning process will be eligible to remain at their current campuses for their final year in 2022-2023. Families who elect this option would need to provide their own transportation, however, and younger siblings would not be eligible to remain.

These changes do not affect the current school year and will go into effect for the 2022-2023 school year. Families affected by the change can expect communication from their future campuses to welcome them to their new schools.
